Conspire Commerce

Overview:

In my first deep dive with Cal Poly Iter8, an esteemed on-campus UX product design lab renowned for crafting real-world solutions, I held the position of UX designer. My contribution revolved around a redesign effort for Conspire Commerce, a valued client, aimed at elevating the allure and functionality of their popup extension page. Rooted in a design philosophy of simplicity and minimalism, this project highlighted the vital nature of effective communication and skillful management of unforeseen intricacies.

Project Details:

Role: UX/UI designer, with 2 Product Managers

Duration: June 2023 – August 2023

Tools: Figma, Illustrator, Coda

Here is the final prototype!

Background Information:

During our engagement at Cal Poly Iter8, we had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Conspire Commerce on the redesign of their popup extension page. Conspire Commerce, a dynamic startup, is dedicated to revolutionizing online shopping experiences by introducing a feature that allows users to effortlessly collaborate and share their shopping carts while browsing commerce websites like Adidas. Our involvement spanned a few weeks, commencing on June 9th, 2023, and concluding on August 6th, 2023. The project objectives encompassed the creation of a comprehensive slide deck and a user-friendly design for the popup shared cart extension, aimed at facilitating seamless customer interaction and navigation.

Problem Statement:

Our mission was to fully conceptualize and design Conspire Commerce's popup extension page. With a clear focus, our goal was to craft an extension that seamlessly integrates with various e-commerce platforms, enabling users to collaborate and share their shopping carts effortlessly. This undertaking aimed to offer a smooth and user-friendly experience, enhancing convenience and interaction for online shoppers.

Client Standups:

During the course of the project, we held weekly standup meetings with the Conspire Commerce team. These meetings played a crucial role as checkpoints to review advancements, tackle potential issues, and synchronize our design initiatives with their vision. The strong collaboration and transparent communication significantly contributed to accomplishing the project's objectives successfully. The regular engagement and proactive discussions allowed us to swiftly address any emerging challenges and make necessary adjustments, ensuring the project's smooth progression. The positive outcomes achieved underline the significance of our consistent interactions and close partnership with the Conspire Commerce team.

Research

We began the project by tackling the design system. We analyzed the company’s target audience, mission, and overall brand communication while moodboarding for the logo, brand colors, and typography.

During our research, we collected information about the client’s target audience and potential competitors. This information, in addition to our client’s feedback on our mood boards, guided us in building an effective UI.

Ideation + DS:

The client came to iter8 with the rough logo so we used their ideas to create an enhanced design. Each team member put together cohesive ideas to present to the client through an exercise called ‘Frankensteins’.  Through rounds of feedback from the client, we were able to finalize colors, typography, and a logo that best aligned with Conspire’s needs.

Prototyping:

Low-Fi

Starting off with the low-fidelity design phase, we sketched out a basic flow. Based on the client’s ideas, we identified elements we deemed important:

1. An easy switch between a shared cart tab and messages

2. Adding items into the shared cart through group messages

3. Simple "proceed to checkout CTA"

With our key features in mind, we shifted to low-fidelity and mid-fidelity prototyping. Each team member contributed their individual concepts to present to the client. After receiving feedback, we refined our focus to specific features and how to display them. Our main focus points were:

1. Group chat member display

2. Shared cart display

3. Navigation bar

Challenges & Lessons Learned:

During our partnership with Conspire Commerce, we encountered initial difficulties in fully grasping the intricacies of their company's concept, which presented multiple complexities within the prototype. Balancing color schemes and streamlining intricate elements proved challenging, as the company aimed for a minimalist aesthetic. However, through effective communication and iterative refinements, we were able to overcome these challenges, ultimately delivering a solution that prioritized easy accessibility and user convenience, in line with their vision. These experiences taught us the significance of persistence, clear communication, and adaptability in navigating intricate design concepts and ensuring successful project outcomes.

What’s Next:

With the project's fulfillment, the partnership we established alongside Conspire Commerce, in accordance with the terms of the contract, now concludes. However, our dedication to furnishing continuous support and aid remains resolute. Should Conspire Commerce necessitate supplementary guidance or express a wish to delve into potential opportunities for future collaborations, rest assured, our team stands ready to extend our support.
